Recap of the RECONECT workshop in Austria

/, News/Recap of the RECONECT workshop in Austria

A RECONECT national workshop organised by our partner UIBK took place on 16 September in Götzens, Austria, attracting the local community, professionals, scientists and politicians (mayor and municipal council).

After a presentation of the project, the workshop focused on the local demonstrator (Inn River, Demonstrator B), from the history of the NBS measures in the area (afforestation and reforestation activities started in the early 50ies) to the monitoring and modelling activities that UIBK is now conducting within RECONECT.

The presentations were followed by a productive discussion, where the participating local community debated with experts on the reasons to consider a green infrastructure as safe and comforting as the corresponding grey measure. This was of particular interest since one of the RECONECT goals is to increase the NBS social acceptance and the sense of security from the use of NBS to mitigate hydro-meteorological risks.

The workshop concluded with the field visit, where the participants could see the monitoring station and an artificial rainfall test organized by the RECONECT team.
